I walked in the other day into the cafe, and half the computers there were no more. While one of them slept; arms and head sprawled behind the counter, the other caretaker motioned to me that it was a full house. He gave me a look that said "I'm irritated by you non-gamers!" But in retrospect could have meant that he was all territorial about me using their lavatory (my pre-cafe session habit). Or perhaps I was all sensitive again from post-work lethargy, misinterpreting everything within my head.
I presume that half of those computers were taken away on the basis that it wasn't as feasible to maintain such a number there anymore; or are currently used as pioneer-equipment for a new branch, planted beside a mall, hotel, and within walking distance from some school or hospital, somewhere on the island.

I'm looking forward to the 19th of August. It's not often that we have bands from Japan traveling all the way to Malaysia (via Singapore), and then go on to tour the peninsular. If everything goes well, I'll be able to see one of the bands play (the other one wouldn't be performing in Penang). I've not been to any Penang gig since 'Beautiful Junk 2005' (*shrugs*). The thing is, I've no idea where it's going to be at since there are no flyers out yet for their Penang leg. And no, I'm too old to mosh; I might break something and not be able to work in a cubicle ever again.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

There was one weekend where we had a friend down at our bachelor house for a visit (this was during my varsity days); and coincidentally, a gig with a grindcore band from Japan headlining was being organized in KL. As such, this was the natural progression of things: we dragged our friend to it as well.
Things went pretty well at first. A band from Penang began the gig by playing (which at the time was unheard of at Malaysian gigs:) instrumentals. They played a song (well, it's more of the title than the song) which was immortalized in my memory: 'The Death Of Optimus Prime', as I too (nostalgically) recall the scene from that particular episode where Optimus was piloting a spaceship; slowly being torn apart to pieces and then, himself as well--- The band went on become one of the pioneers in the post-rock scene, opening a way to those who deemed their own singing voices unsuitable for public listening and artistic aspirants. They called themselves Damn Dirty Apes. They ended their set with Mogwai's 'Fear Satan' (which must've been leaked out to the authorities by a snitch, as you shall soon see...).
Everything was chaos during Custom Daisy's set (and yes, I do think that's a drug reference there). The friend we brought along didn't seem too shocked to see the sea of bodies and limbs tossing and waving; as violently as the music (if not more)--much to our relief. My trying to bootleg their set into a cassette turned up to be a fruitless affair; decibels too loud being fuzz and noise and nothing more.
Just as a super-group collaboration was taking their place on the stage (Koffin Kanser and Spacebar--I think), a voice came on through the sound-system; a voice of authority, and age--and it asked us to stop whatever we were doing, and file out systematically towards the entrance and after that we would be checked by the officers outside. And that was when almost every single person who was there, in the dark and confusion said, "Shit..."
Me and my friends ended up showing our varsity cards to the enforcers of the law and were cleared, whereas some of those who were younger were rounded up and escorted to trucks, and then to the police station for urine-testing and etc. I overheard one of them saying, "Tolong encik, saya tertinggal kad saya kat rumah"--which was basically an apology for having left his identification card at home. It was the season of the Black Metal Raid Fiasco; it was the season where basically, local music died for many.

And for a while (helpless; we could only digress...) me and friends wondered if they (above picture) would come back. But they never did.
