"Hey! wait!,
I’ve got a new complaint;
Forever in debt to your priceless advice,
Your advice..."
- Heart Shaped Box, Nirvana
Another highlight for my Saturday, didn’t think we would get the studio booked ‘cause I was on the ferry to Butterworth round 3pm+ and still no one booked, but then again most Malaysians are pretty simultaneous and who actually plans for fun anymore? (Haha, work sure, but never for fun, ‘cause then it’s so ‘organised’, yeah I’m a fan of chaotic fun: the unplanned and the unexpected). The bus ride home was pretty ok the 1st half, halfway through I woke and found that the air conditioning was pretty dead, if not ‘terminally ill’. And I recalled the rides in my oven of a car since the CFC decided to up and leave my air conditioning system. But anyways, not much to complain ‘cause as I was thinking about how hot it was and stuff, I feel asleep again.
Taiping was pretty jammed up (a small place mind you, but never backward) as Monday is a replacement holiday for Sunday’s Labor Day. But well, that meant that I had some friends whom I had never seen for a while back too!. Dinner was right after me doing my photoblog about the recording studio, it consisted of 2 pieces of fried cutlets, some curry chicken (not the thick curry type, but was so good), corn on the cob, bread (some custom made type, I can’t tell) and fu chok soup. Very fillin’ (I can never have something like this in Penang w/o dishing out some moolah). Thx mum. ;-)
Setlist for jamming session 31 April 2005 (In no particular order)
1. All My Life (Foo Fighters) - The sound wasn’t well rounded yet, but anyways we made it through the whole song.
2. High and Dry (Radiohead)
3. There, there (Radiohead)
4. Ride On Shooting Star (The Pillows, and for your anime fans out there, it’s on the FLCL soundtrack, surreal anime….)
5. Beautiful Morning w. You ( “ )
6. Monkey Wrench (Foo Fighters)
7. Helter Skelter (The Beatles, from their White album: a damn rockin’ track which is the intro song to a Charles Manson based movie, I forgot the title as usual…)
8. Dive (Nirvana)
9. Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana)
10. Just (Radiohead)
11. Everlong (Foo Fighters)
12. The Everlasting Gaze (Smashing Pumpkins)
13. Mayonaise/Quiet (Smashing Pumpkins)
Took EP along for the session, hope you didn’t get to bored, saturated in a Db high room is our noise….
Watched Scandel26 play after that, man, their sound is tight!. This Taiping band will play a gig end of May at Paul’s Place (again with the “If I’m not mistaken”). I can foresee a headline in the papers, ‘Taiping Band Does Good In Underground Circuit, Taiping The New Capital Of Rock!’. Hahaha. Nah, that won’t happen but still I think they’re (Scandel) going to do pretty well there. Heard Love Me Butch is playing there on that day too. If only Penang was closer to KL or traveling was felt/perceived much faster and that particular weekend had me a Saturday leave…..
Oh well…..It’ll be nice see my chums later today. Though I have a heavy head rite now from not sleepin’ enough but I do that every weekend in Taiping : not sleep enough .Sleeping in Taiping is a waste of time if you’re currently some place else (Me: it's Penang). It’s the place to recreate.
