'Someone Recommended Me Red by Elbow'

Through the eyes of a seven year old kid, i saw/perceived everything in its immenseness, constantly vibrant, never lacking colour (ones that you wouldn't choose but end up growing on you), the interactions/conversations were never dull, though always lacked content of any real significance. But then we were just kids with minds too simple, untrained and inexperienced. It was a bliss which would wear thin as the years went by, but oblivious to our coming maturity and awakening to the real world: we grew without ever wanting to.

It was recess. Noise pollution meters would record good decibels worth of readings I'm sure. As I can recall (which is mostly in fragments and pieces, likely to be mismatched and misplaced), I was having some sort of after-recess kid activity, playing a game with a few others. It could've been fun because I (we) was (were) so engrossed in it that when the bell rang, for a good two minutes or so - we were still at it. However of course, we were in a state of urgency as we continued. But nevertheless, the game had to be finished. It had to have a 'proper' ending of sorts. Finish it and call it a good recess.

When the 'game's end' requirements were met (I have the faintest idea now how it was deemed 'done'), we cheered, shouted, screamed and ran back to our respective classes. Ran like there was no tomorrow, like a gun was to our heads, like Death was after us (You get the idea). Jumping over the smallest of obstacles as we ran (it wasn't necessary, maybe it just added more excitement and drama because we were already late), some who were 'gifted' enough would skid when we reached the cafeterie (the green tiles were only a hazard to klutz-es and people who had worn out soles but didn't know how to skid) - we had to make it back ASAP. Those not fortunate would have the surface of their rears sore from what was known as a necessary displinary action.

Nothing ever happened to me I guess (nothing which came from the school authority figures anyway), because a few metres away after leaving the canteen area, I fell hard on the asphalt tar road and attained a deep gash on my right elbow, which became a very visible and ugly looking scar this day. This was in primary one.

A similiar experience occured in primary two. Only this time i fell on my left elbow.
