The experience of working in Penang, ain't exactly a bad thing if you have a few people whom you know from your hometown. On Wednesday as I was recalibrating my brain for donkey jobs (i do it every 5 minutes, and lose the focus every 10-15 mins), J called for a session of clubbing (which i don't do very often). So basically without much thought i agreed. It's not unheard of that i spend 4 hours sleeping during a work day. And i gather that my sub-conscious self wanted some time to have a proper 'release' and to get tipsy.
Rushed back to apartment right after dinner for some shut eye so that i could be at least functioning for a few hours working the next day. Slept real dead sleep for about 2 hours + (which really helped!). Woke up to J's call and got ready real easy. I wore my workin' geek's clothes (no designer brands, smart casual, monotone colors....). This unfortunately made the club bouncer think that i was under 18 (i went, "what the heck?",but more on this later).
Picked up the rest of the people who were heading the same place and yeah it was about 10 of us (Sorry i don't count properly at night). Went to a place called Glo situated probably about 50 metres from my workplace and if things went bad i would spend the night sleeping by the side of some road and hop into work immediately when i needed to punch in at the clock (Kidding, but it was a last resort thingie if ever the unexpected happened). Payed MYR25-00 cover charge to get in. The entrance was a small, narrow space drapped in black cloth (of which type, i am uncertain), which after going in, we found that the place was nearly as empty as my pockets on my bad 'ATM-non-dispensing/faulty system' days. Still, we tried to make the most out of it with the minimal alcohol that we had.
I strained my eyes to look for 'interesting subjects'. It was after all, dark and these type of situations are always oppurtune moments to meet new people. Not that i would try/be bold enough to open up to a stranger. It was on my mind anyways.
As time passed, probably due to the lack of energy in the room and everyone having full blown self-counsciouness (therefore no dancing/movement), me and J found the situation to be extremely boring if not sleep inducing. Some of the friends (J's) from the group had tripped to the other club near by, where it was not hidden, the amount of happy, shiny people in its interiors. 2 were girls and 1 guy to be exact. Obviously they had made it 'cause of the girls. When me and J tried we were shoo-ed off like we were paupers. Bald badass looking guy, and we were almost certain that everytime he looked away in a different direction, we would gain our triumphal entry. But nope, no such luck for the Taiping dudes.
However after about 30 mins of forging plans to sneak in, the said group of 2 girls and guy came out (one of the girls, his steady) smiling. Said we could go in as well, so yeah we did, but not without fuss from the bouncer dude. He had to check our identification cards. Legal age to enter = 18. Do i look 18?, i did not know whether to feel like he had given me a compliment or an insult.
Danced the night away (yeah i do dance, but i'm more of a 'closet-clubbing-dancer-dude', which is more than i can say for people who just stare and not enjoy themselves) and thanks to one of the guys in the group, some freeflow was treated round. Straws conduct the extra high that beer guzzlers wish for, i had that piece of information in my head for some time now and only realised the impact of it after my 3rd sip from the straw.
All in all, it was a good highlight of the week. The bunch of us went home around 4am (as i predicated) after a short session of mamaking. I'll probably blog a little later about what happened last night. Not one of my best days, but hey... i'm content with this week.
